Ascolto Attivo is part of the interdisciplinary team called by Mario Cucinella, curator of the Italian Pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale to work on the project “Arcipelago Italia. Projects for the future of the country’s inland territories”.
Arcipelago Italia proposes 5 interventions in 5 strategic inland areas of our country: Gibellina and Belice, Camerino and the crater of the 2016 earthquake, Ottana and Barbagia, the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and the Casentino forests, Matera and the Basento Valley.
In all these areas, a multidisciplinary team, made up of architects, urban planners, experts in participatory planning, photographers, filmmakers, and experts in various other disciplines, has worked on the creation of experimental projects, conceived as potential opportunities for growth and development for the territories.
These projects aim to propose a new mode of intervention that has dialogue with the territory as one of its fundamental aspects. What is proposed is an architecture that listens to and plans together with the community, starting from the needs it expresses.
In collaboration with the curator’s staff, Ascolto Attivo has supervised the participatory workshops for listening to the territory conducted in all five areas, starting a specific process in each one. The activities conducted will be presented during the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale (from 26 May to 25 November 2018) with videos, publications and illustrative materials.
