Promoted by the Municipality of Milan, the participatory planning process “Garibaldi and the Participatory Island” took place between July 2012 and January 2013. The objective was to define with the citizens a proposal for the redevelopment of the Cavalcavia Bussa, the identification of a location, contents and management methods for the civic centre. The process was financed thanks to the urbanisation charges relating to the construction of the Porta Nuova complex. In the space of a few months, the process went through several stages: visioning workshops, Open Space Technology, Charrette, International competition, Planning for real. Thanks to this process, citizens, together with the municipality’s technicians, worked out which elements to include in the official call for proposals; some citizens were also part of the jury that chose, on the basis of the results of the process, the winning projects in the international competition organised by the municipality.
The different phases of the project were realised in collaboration with different partners; in particular the OST was realised in collaboration with Gerardo de Luzenberger (Genius Loci), the Charrette with Giulio Ernesti (IUAV), Sara Seravalle took care of the visual facilitation (Sketchapensieri).
